LEWISTON – State Rep. Elaine Makas, D-Lewiston, will serve on Maine’s delegation to the Democratic National Convention in Boston July 26-29.

Makas was elected to be an “at-large” delegate by John Kerry supporters from across Maine at the recent Democratic State Convention in Portland. She will be one of only two Maine state legislators representing Maine at the Boston convention, and the only Kerry delegate from Androscoggin County.

“This is truly an honor, not only for me personally, but for the city of Lewiston, as well,” Makas said. “Although our community remains under-represented among delegates to the national convention, the fact that I was elected by loyal Kerry supporters throughout the state is certainly a step in the right direction.”

In addition to her work as a legislator in Augusta, Makas teaches at Lewiston-Auburn College for the University of Southern Maine. She also serves as vice chairwoman of the Lewiston Zoning Appeals Board and is on the boards of Androscoggin Head Start and Childcare and The Public Theatre.
