AUBURN – Three water district projects will tie up traffic around the city for the next two weeks.

Crews will be cleaning and lining old cast-iron pipes under Summit Avenue, Cook Street and Main Street just south of Festival Plaza.

“The biggest snarl is going to be on Main Street, because we have more traffic there,” said water district engineer John Storer. The crews will reduce traffic on that road to one lane, starting Friday and continuing into next week. Flaggers will be on hand controlling traffic during the heavier work, he said.

Crews will send machines along the inside of the pipes to scrape away rust and mineral deposits, then line them with cement. They will be digging on Summit Street beginning Monday, Cook Street beginning Wednesday and on Main Street on Friday. The process requires the water district to keep the holes open for at least a week, Storer said.
