LEWISTON – Renovations of Southern Gateway sidewalks should begin in August, according to city officials.

Pratt and Sons of Mechanic Falls will perform the work, installing new granite curbs, storm drains, sidewalks, landscaping and streetlights along Lisbon, Cedar, Maple and Canal streets. The Lewiston Finance Committee gave Pratt and Sons the contract on Monday. They bid $595,580 for the job.

The work is part of the deal that brought Oxford Networks to Lisbon Street at the site of the former Good Shepherd Food-Bank warehouse. Since then, Northeast Bank, Andover College and VIP Auto Discount Center have announced plans to redevelop old Lisbon Street lots.

The Finance Committee also awarded a project to build two 3-million-gallon water tanks off Ferry Road to The Natgun Corp. of Wakefield, Mass. The company bid $2.67 million. That project will bring increased water pressure to southern Lewiston.
