FARMINGTON – The Mount Blue Area Garden Club will travel to the Brooks Farm in Phillips for their meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 20. All will be invited to tour the gardens there; the day lilies should be in bloom.

The club asks that those attending bring a lawn chair and a brown-bag supper. Drinks and dessert will be provided by the club. The public is welcome to attend all garden club meetings.

To reach the farm from Farmington, take Route 4 past Phillips Elementary School and turn left on Route 142, the Weld Road; go 1.9 miles, and Brooks farm is on the left.

Group to look at town’s history

NEW VINEYARD – The Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 21. Members will review what they have in their files. They are concentrating on New Vineyard – its families, photos and cemeteries. As usual, all interested persons are invited to attend.

Firefighters to hear speaker from mill

EAST DIXFIELD – The Franklin County Firemen’s Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at the East Dixfield Fire Station.

Dan Hallock of the MeadWestvaco mill will speak about chemical response units for emergency situations.

All firefighters and interested people are invited to attend. After the regular business meeting, there will be refreshments and a drawing for door prizes.

Basques are subject of documentary

FARMINGTON – The Western Mountains Peace Action Workshop will show a film, “The Mondragon Experiment,” about how the Basque people escaped poverty. It will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 22, in Ricker Addition, Room 217, at the University of Maine at Farmington.

The public is welcome to see this documentary. More information may be obtained by calling Craigen Healy at 652-2377.

Modelers to send planes soaring

FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Aircraft Modelers will hold a flying demonstration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at the Titcomb Ski Slope. The public is invited to see these radio-controlled airplanes fly. Hot dogs and soda will be available..

Masonic picnic planned Sunday

RANGELEY – Masons, their families and friends, and Eastern Star and Rainbow members are being invited to attend a Masonic picnic all day Sunday, July 25, at Keirsteads Campground on Sandy River Pond. Sponsored by the 15th District Masonic Association, the event will include a variety of activities for all ages.

Those attending should bring their own food and beverages, organizers said. Picnic tables and grills will be provided.
