Chad Lutick belted out two hits including a three-run home run to lead Main-Land to a 15-6 victory over TailGators in recent Auburn Players League softball action. Ben Santos chipped in with three hits for Main-Land, while Mike Dubois earned the mound win.

Lewiston Slow-Pitch

The Gipper’s softball team from the Lewiston Slow-Pitch League captured the 2004 Summer Sizzler One-Pitch softball tournament this past weekend in Oxford. Gipper’s complied a perfect 5-0 record. Team members include Mike Pomerleau, John Colino, Kyle Winter, Mike Gazza, Bob Haskell, Ed Fadden, Mike Gooldrup, John Linnell, John Thibault, Jeff Danse and Eric Lativierre.

Big El tourney

The first annual “Big El” men’s softball tournament will be held in Jay on Saturday, Aug 14. If weather prevents play on Saturday the game will be played Sunday. This tournament will be held in memory of Elwood Harris, a devoted coach and good friend to many. Elwood lost his battle with kidney disease last year.

The tournament will be a “one-pitch” modified or slow-pitch with double elimination. There is an entry fee of $100 per team. Interested teams can contact Jeff Harris at 778-5003, or Louis Webster at 645-2336. Webster can be reached by mail at 6710 E. Dixfield Rd., Dixfield, Maine 04224.

State tournament set

The 2004 State Major Softball Tournament will be held Friday through Sunday, July 23-25, at the Auburn Suburban Little League field in Auburn. The six state tourney qualifiers will each play three preliminary round games against predetermined opponents. At the conclusion of pool competition, the top four teams advance to single elimination semifinal and championship round games.

The tournament will get underway with Opening Ceremonies at 9:45 a.m. Friday. Times for preliminary rounds are as follows:

Friday, July 23: Game 1, District 4 vs. District 6, 10 a.m.; Game 2, District 1 vs. District 5, 1 p.m.; Game 3, District 3 vs. District 2, 4 p.m.

Saturday, July 24: Game 4, District 5 vs. District 2, 10 a.m.; Game 5, District 3 vs. District 4 p.m.; Game 6, District 1 vs. District 6, 4 p.m.

Sunday, July 24: Game 7, District 3 vs. District 6, 10 a.m.; Game 8, District 1 vs. District 2, 1 p.m.; Game 9, District 4 vs. District 5, 4 p.m.

Tuesday, July 27, Semifinal round: Game 10, Second place team vs. Third place team, 1 p.m.; Game 11, First place team vs. Fourth place team, 4 p.m.

Maine State Major Softball Championship Game: Wednesday, July 28, winner Game 10 vs. winner Game 11.
