RUMFORD – The SAD 43 board appointed several new teachers, awarded a fuel contract, set up board committees and learned of a scholarship fund-raiser when it met last week.

New teachers hired were: Erica Wohl as a health teacher at Mountain Valley Middle School, Lindsay MacMillan as a Grade 7 science teacher at MVMS, and Donna Landry as a transitional first-grade teacher at Rumford Elementary School.

Dozens of co-curricular and extracurricular appointments were made for the middle and high schools. Several positions remained to be filled, including those for girls varsity basketball coach, golf coach, majorette advisor, girls junior varsity soccer coach, and assistant track coach.

Barbara DeSalle was appointed head teacher at Rumford Elementary, and Michael Lavogna was appointed to a similar position at Virginia Elementary School.

In other business, Mountain Valley High School Principal Bruce Lindberg announced a fund-raising effort for music and theater at the high school by Mexico’s Frosty Delite.

A district spokeswoman said the contract for heating oil was awarded to Woodstock Oil, at a cost of 99.9 cents per gallon. The contract for diesel fuel has yet to be awarded.

Rumford board member Frank DiConzo was named chairman of the Finance Committee, Mexico representative Betty Barrett was appointed chairwoman of the Contract Committee, Rumford member David McKivergan will head the Personnel Committee, and Rumford board member Make Papsadora will chair the Police Committee.

A closed session was held at the end of the meeting to discuss a personnel matter. No decisions were made.
