I read with interest the July 1 story on “25 drivers cited in crackdown.” The article stated that “the high number of speeders caught in one morning was unusual.” It was unusual because no officer is there 95 percent of the time. If the police were there every day, they would probably find many more.

Court Street was recently repaved. Where as before people drove 30 to 40 miles per hour, they are now doing 40 plus. I have called Mark Adams, the Auburn police, the mayor, my city councilor and Public Works regarding 25 miles per hour signs from the bypass to Park Avenue but to no avail. I have been told that the traffic would drop when the rotary is fixed. I don’t see that happening in the foreseeable future.

There have been numerous accidents on Court Street due to speed, the most recent, the motorcycle accident by Taylor Brook Mall. The estimate was that the motorcycle was doing 60 miles per hour. How many more accidents have to happen before the city wakes up?

If a crackdown was done on Court Street from the bottom of Goff Hill to the middle school, we wouldn’t have to lay off a principal, several teachers and stop programs. In fact, Auburn would have a large surplus.
