LEWISTON – The lower end of Lisbon Street was closed Thursday afternoon when a sewer line break caused a crater in the roadway larger than a manhole.
Lisbon Street was closed from Ash to Main streets after the hole was reported in the street in front of Drapeau’s Costume Rentals.
The hole measured 4 feet across and nearly 2 feet deep. City crews closed off the section of Lisbon Street while preparing to repair the damage. Lisbon Street was expected to re-open sometime today.
In June 2001, the same section of Lisbon Street was closed for a day due to a water main break beneath the roadway. In that case, a sprinkler line feeding the former Lamey-Wellehan building apparently ruptured, creating a sinkhole in the middle of the street.
