I am writing concerning the article in the River Valley edition of the Sun Journal dated July 19.
The article outlined the accomplishments of Derrick Waugh, Kurtis Bucher and Kevin Knight in earning the Boy Scouts’ highest honor, the rank of Eagle. The boys deserve any and all recognition as they worked very hard toward this award.
However, the photograph printed does not do the Boy Scouts justice. It makes it look like the politicians were being recognized instead of focusing on the scouts themselves. What readers of the Sun Journal do not see are the many badges and awards that are part of their uniforms earned toward the road to Eagle Scout.
Also, an omission was made in the article by not including the contributions made by the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1248 of Rumford. The Fraternal Order of Eagles has always supported scouting.
In regard to the unfortunate photograph, the community, relatives and, most importantly, the Scouts deserve something more, another photograph perhaps. This photo should focus on the Scouts and their outstanding achievements
