PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) -Kelly Shoppach hit a three-run homer and the Pawtucket Red Sox extended their winning streak to five games with a 5-3 victory over the Ottawa Lynx on Saturday night.

Shoppach broke open a 2-2 game in the seventh inning, lining the first pitch from Sean Bergman (7-9) to left field for his 14th homer of the season.

Tim Kester (9-7) earned the victory by pitching 7 1-3 innings and allowing three runs on nine hits. He struck out three.

Adam Hyzdu gave the Red Sox (49-52) a 1-0 lead by wrapping his 19th home run around the left field foul pole in the second inning off Matt Riley.

The Lynx tied it in the fourth on Jose Leon’s single, but the Red Sox countered with an unearned run in their half of the fourth.

Ottawa second baseman Mike Fontenot dropped Hyzdu’s popup for a two-base error and Hyzdu scored on Cesar Crespo’s infield single.

Ottawa pulled within 5-3 in the eighth on Armando Rios’ RBI double off Edwin Almonte.

But Almonte retired the next five Lynx for his fifth save of the season.

The Red Sox have won nine of their last 10 games.
