PARIS – Patrick Harris is not the type of man to shrink in the face of adversity.

Despite having lost the use of all four limbs in a motor vehicle accident three years ago, he’s jumping out of planes, taking to the ski slopes and scuba diving.

Harris is also writing a book. He hasn’t yet worked out the title, but he plans to include a chapter called “Quads can do and the quest for adventure.” This is where he will detail his travels across land, sea and air, including his recent tandem sky dive jump.

“It was quite a rush, I tell you,” Harris said Friday from his Paris home, having just jumped the weekend before.

Harris intends to write about his accident and recovery, his struggle against perceptions of quadriplegics, and how to cope with the condition.

He will also detail his trek across Maine, which he completed in September 2003 in order to raise awareness for stem cell research. Harris put more than 700 miles on a van and his electric wheelchair during the trek.

Harris is still trying to raise awareness for stem cell research, and said Friday part of his book proceeds will go to that cause.
