PARIS – The Paris Public Library announces it is a community “hot spot,” where owners of laptop computers with “wireless” network cards may walk into the library with their personal computers and access the Internet through the library’s T-1 connection.

The library is one of 46 Maine public libraries participating in the Walk In Wireless project of the Maine State Library, which was supported by a grant from the Maine Telecommunications Education Access Fund.

Each library received a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router to broadcast connections to the library’s network and a Dell Inspiron 1100 Notebook computer.

During the past month of testing, users have been pleased with the ease, speed and convenience of the wireless link. Tests have shown the wireless network is even available outside of the building, making the link accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
