FARMINGTON – Ron Pratt said he’s pleased with the enthusiasm of the Jay Historical Society, which will have a display at the Farmington Fair this fall.
Pratt is the de facto spokesman for the farm museum, which offered an 18- by 40-foot building to area historical societies.
The farm museum, in a separate building, was put together in less than a month last year, according to Pratt.
He said he anticipates future participation by Wilton and Eustis groups, who have already expressed interest.
Other towns are also expected to get involved.
Dot White of the Jay Historical Society worried that the group wouldn’t be able to fully use all the space.
“It’s going to take a lot to fill it,” she said.
They hope to bring items that represent Jay’s history and the importance of granite, paper and apples, which have historically provided the economic base for the town.
They also plan to present an exhibit of a general store and schoolhouse, complete with years of school photos collected by an avid society member.
The historical society will hold an open house Aug. 14 and will begin putting together its exhibit for the fair shortly thereafter.
“It’ll be a lot of work, but that’s OK,” said White.
In a related matter, Pratt announced that the farm museum will be holding a work party starting 6 p.m. Monday at the museum. Workers will expand the old kitchen and pantries collection, so that an old bedroom can be displayed above.
“Bring your hard hat,” he said.
