PARIS – Darlene Glover, manager of emergency services at Stephens Memorial Hospital, addressed the Oxford Hills Rotary Club at a recent meeting.

Glover told members that child molestation is an epidemic, hitting one out of three girls and one out of seven boys before age 18. Molesters usually know their victims and 50 percent were molested as a child.

Many molesters use gifts, love and threats to entice their victims. Most commit their first offense while they are still in their teens. Glover said 29 percent of all rapes in children occur before the child is 11.

She went on to say that it is a person’s responsibility to teach the children and believe the children.

The Oxford Hills Rotary Club meets at 7:30 a.m. every Wednesday at the First Congregational Church in South Paris. If interested in attending a meeting, contact President Jack Richardson at 743-5237.
