LEWISTON – Evelyn M. Rancourt Lettiere, 84, of Marshwood Nursing home, died Thursday morning, July 29, at Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Lewiston on July 20, 1920, the daughter of Joseph and Dorilda Dube Leblanc. She was educated in local schools, and lived her entire life in the Lewiston Auburn area. On Nov. 9, 1940, she married Roland H. Rancourt Sr., and they made their home at 57 Marston St., Auburn, where they raised their family. He died on Jan. 19, 1971.
On May 25, 1974, she married MSgt. James A. Lettiere, USAF Ret., in Lewiston. He died on June 15, 1982. She was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Church in Auburn, and in more recent years, had been a member of Holy Family Church in Lewiston.
After her children had grown, she worked in the local shoe industry, and in later years in sales at the former Ward Bros. clothing store on Lisbon Street. She retired from Belllegarde and Son Custom Kitchens in Lewiston.
She was a devoted mother and a wonderful cook, and enjoyed many family celebrations, holiday gatherings, and especially cookouts in their backyard where all got to enjoy her favorite pastime. She loved babies and enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a loving and generous person, and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Venise Rancourt Simond and her husband, Raymond, of Monmouth; her two sons, Roland H. Rancourt Jr. and his wife, Louise, of Auburn, and Laureat (Larry) Rancourt, of Portland; seven grandchildren, Mark Simond, Todd Simond, Lisa Simond Saucier, Sandra Rancourt Masters, Michele Rancourt French, Michael Rancourt, and Eugene Rancourt; 13 grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeannine Soucy, of Oregon; and a brother, Joseph Rene Leblanc, of Washington.
She was predeceased by her sister, Theresa Pineau, of California; her brother, Roger Leblanc, of Lewiston; and a grandson, Kevin Rancourt, of Standish.
