GRAY – Orin Colley Whitney, 88, of 198 Gray Road, Gray, passed away at his home July 28, where he was born, July 11, 1916, a son of Fred and Reina (Colley) Whitney.

He grew up in Gray and lived in the same house all his life. He graduated from Pennell Institute in 1934.

He was a poultry farmer at his residence for over 50 years and a postal carrier, until his retirement in 1982. He served on various boards for the town of Gray.

He was a member of the Cumberland County Soils Conservation Board, the Farm Bureau, I.O.O.F. and Rebecca Lodges for 65 years, a grange member for over 25 years and belonged to the First Universalist Church of Yarmouth since 1968.

He loved square dancing and traveling in his retirement.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Edna Hawkes Whitney; sister, Elizabeth Mcquire, of Freeport; sons, Donald and Fred, of Gray; daughter, Aubine Dingwell, of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Reina Whitney; and great-granddaughter, Cassondra Leigh Sullivan.
