OXFORD – Police are still searching for an armed robber who on Thursday held up a Citgo gas station at Oxford Plaza on Route 26.

“We have a suspected offender,” Oxford Police Sgt. Rickie Jack said Friday, adding that he expected to wrap up the case in a day or two.

Jack was in the process of arranging a photo lineup. Police hope three witnesses to the robbery, including the Citgo attendant, may be able to positively identify a photograph of the suspect.

The man took $700 in cash from the station safe at 9:40 p.m. Thursday after showing a handgun and then locking the station attendant in a bathroom, Jack said.

The Citgo station attendant was able to dial 911 from the bathroom, Jack said. In addition, one outside witness followed the robber’s vehicle toward Alpine Street and recorded the license plate number

Surveillance cameras were in the area, Jack added, but he had not reviewed the camera footage as of Friday morning.
