SUMNER – One adult and two juveniles escaped serious injury when their car drifted off the road and flipped once on a curve on Route 219 in Sumner late about 5 p.m. Saturday , police said.

The vehicle traveled about 100 feet in the soft, steep shoulder, narrowly missing two large cement culverts and a light pole before flipping and landing upright in the marsh. The driver, who asked not to be identified, was traveling west on 219. A passing motorist stopped and checked to see if anyone was critically injured before calling 911.

Two Sumner Engines responded, as well as Tri-Town rescue. The three occupants suffered only minor cuts and bruises, according to Oxford County officer Justin Brown.

The accident occurred only a short distance from where a log truck turned over recently, along the stretch of Route 219 that was completely rebuilt last fall.
