Mark Adams, the Auburn assistant manager, is leaving the city for a new position with the Maine Turnpike Authority. Many elected officials, employees and citizens have spoken of his deep commitment to this community.

As his father, a taxpayer and a former elected city councilor, I appreciate the long hours he worked to improve the lives of many. The downtown redevelopment projects of the Hilton Garden, the new Auburn Hall, Festival Plaza and the parking garages are just a few of Mark’s achievements to make Auburn a better and safer place to live, be educated and work in.

Personal service to people who needed help is his trademark and personality.

His team efforts improved our lifestyle.

Mark enjoyed preserving our history for the future. The idea of “Never a step backward,” from our city seal, was always in his thoughts.

The bronze shoes on the Plaza water drop are a fitting memorial to all the hardworking Auburn shoemakers, including both his grandmothers.

Dave Adams, Auburn
