JAY – The first annual “Big El” Men’s Softball Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, August 14 (and August 15 if necessary) in Jay. The tourney, named in memory of Elwood Harris, a devoted coach and good friend to many, will be a 1-pitch modified or slow-pitch event, with double-elimiation. There is a 5 homer limit in all games.

Entry fee is $100 per team. Interested clubs can contact Jeff Harris at 778-5003. Checks can be made payable to Jeff Harris, 28 Purington Lane, Chesterville, Maine 04938. Another contact person is Louis Webster (645-2336), 6710 E. Dixfield Rd., Dixfield, Maine 04224.

Proceeds will aid the fight against kidney disease.

Auburn Players

AUBURN – The Ball Busters remained unbeaten (13-0) by sweeping a doubleheader Thursday. In the first game at Lakeview, Ball Busters defeated K&K Excavation 19-4 as Bill Mason earned the mound win. In the second game at Pettengill, Ball Busters beat Meineke Muffler 12-3 behind Mason’s steady pitching. Tony Fontaine and Ron Douty both rapped 2 hits, each swatting a 2-run homer.
