WESTBROOK (AP) – Police were asking residents to be on the lookout for a man who has apparently attacked three women in the past two weeks, including one assault on Saturday morning.

“I would consider him dangerous, especially if it’s the same guy who did it today in the daytime, he’s becoming more emboldened,” Detective Timothy Gardner said.

A 26-year-old woman was walking on Glenwood Avenue just after 10 a.m. on Saturday when the man approached her and hit her on the head, police said.

The incident was similar to two that occured in the same area on the nights of July 16 and 21.

The women involved were all in their early 20s.

The attacker was described as being in his late teens or early 20s, six feet tall and 200 pounds. A composite photo showed him with a mustache and short dark hair.

In the two previous attacks, the man wore a hooded gray sweatshirt with the hood up. In the first attack, he asked a woman on foot for directions before hitting her on the head, police said. In the second, he struck a woman on the head as she rode by on a bicycle.

Although none of the attacks caused serious injury, police warned they could escalate.

“We think he’s had weapons in a couple assaults,” Gardner said. “I don’t know if he’s someone who’s mentally ill, or if he has a plan to do something further.”

Police have increased patrols in the Spring Street area and are searching for a suspect.
