LEWISTON – Councilors will tackle talk of changing the city’s ward boundaries and creating a property tax cap panel at Tuesday workshop.

City Clerk Kathy Montejo said she should have sample maps ready Monday that would make the city’s ward boundaries more closely match new Maine House of Representatives district boundaries. Those boundaries, based on the 2000 U.S. Census, were changed last April.

Councilors tabled a plan at their July 20 meeting that would have created a citizen task force to review the city budget in light of a 1 percent property tax cap. Voters will decide on that cap this November, and City Administrator James Bennett hoped to enlist both cap friends and foes to find ways for the city to survive with fewer tax dollars.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Lewiston City Hall. The meeting is open to the public, although the public does not get an opportunity to speak. The meeting will be shown live on Great Falls TV.
