AUBURN – A sunny afternoon helped ensure the success of the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society’s second annual golf tournament on June 18 at the Fairlawn Golf and Country Club in Poland.

More than 100 players, golf enthusiasts as well as those who just came out to support the cause, made up 26 teams. Prizes were given for the three best scores.

“We were very pleased with the turnout,” said Douglas Agren, event chairman. “We made more than $12,000, which is double what we made our first year. That’s pretty remarkable.”

All the money raised goes toward the Humane Society’s capital campaign in progress. The society is raising $2.5 million to build a new animal shelter on Strawberry Avenue in Lewiston.

People interested in learning more about the plans for the new shelter can call 786-4713 or visit at 3312 Hotel Road in Auburn.
