LEWISTON – Trumpeter Alan Kaschub will present the last program in the Saints Peter and Paul noonday concert series on Wednesday, Aug. 4. Kaschub is one of Maine premier trumpeters and will be accompanied on organ by Scott Vaillancourt.

Walk rescheduled

AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library announces that the nature walk at the Auburn Land Lab has been rescheduled to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19.

Cameron Parker, naturalist and environmental educator at the Auburn Land Lab, will lead families on an ecology walk. Those attending will look for birds, trees, butterflies and salamanders native to the area. The hour-long walk is perfect for children of all ages, their caregivers and parents.

For directions or in case of inclement weather, participants are asked to call the Auburn Public Library at 782-3191, ext. 3.

Adoption topic

LEWISTON – The Lewiston office of the Department of Health and Human Services will host a public informational meeting about adoption and foster care at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, in Lewiston. Those considering adoption or foster care through the Maine Department of Health and Human Services are encouraged to attend.

NEW GLOUCESTER – August events are announced at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village.

A woodworking workshop will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7. Learn how to make a frame and panel door in a class led by Chris Becksvoort, woodworker. Special tools are required. Cost is $25.

A chair caning workshop will take place on Saturday, Aug. 21. Participants will learn the seven-step method of chair caning. Cost is $35. call (207) 926-4597 for details.

Guided walks through the Shaker farm fields, woods, Loon’s Point and the footbridge at Aurelia’s Cascade will be offered on Aug. 21. Reservations are required. There is a fee.

Crafts demonstrations will include R and R Spinners on Aug. 7, Dolls from Tidbits on Aug. 21 and rug weaving on Aug. 28.

Lake association

WINTHROP – The annual meeting of the Annabessacook Lake Improvement Association will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Augusta West Campground. There will be a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. followed by a business meeting at 9. There will be door prizes and a raffle for scholarship fund.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on July 27 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Nancy Lindgren and Lucille Theriault; second, David Lock and Luke Merry; third, Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau; fourth, Martine Begert and Rosemarie Goodwin; fifth, Eleanor Abraham and Mary Leahey.

Flight B winners were: first, Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau; second, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer. Flight C winners were Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer. Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the center. A partner is guaranteed.

The club also met on July 28 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners in Flight A were: tie at first, Pat Quinn and Mary Leahey with Richard Horne and Nancy Lindgren; third, Ray Sirois and John Hackett. Flight B winners were Luke Merry and Larry Fortier.
