FARMINGTON – It looks like a 77-year-old Mount Vernon man will start a series of rabies shots Tuesday because the dog that bit him was not found.
Norman Freiberger was walking toward his vehicle after church services Sunday and was bitten by a dog lying between two vehicles in the parking lot of the Farmington Baptist Church on Whittier Road, according to his wife, Emma Freiberger.
The dog lunged at him and broke the skin of his thigh but didn’t rip his pants. The town’s animal control officer, Wayne Atwood, and Farmington police were unsuccessful in their attempt to capture the dog.
Atwood said the dog looked like combination Labrador retriever, German shepherd and either Airedale terrier or chow.
Treatment, including a rabies vaccine and preliminary shot, costs more than $2,300.
