FARMINGTON – A home under construction on Meadow Lane was damaged by fire Sunday night. Farmington firefighters responded to a neighbor’s report of smoke coming from the roof of the home at 7:28 p.m. Chief Terry Bell said firefighters saw smoke coming from the ridgepole and smelled wood smoke when they arrived. The fire was under control within 15 minutes, he said.

Twenty-one people responded from Farmington and Wilton fire departments with three engines, a ladder truck and a squad truck. Bell estimated $2,000 damage from a hole in the ceiling and some water. No one was at the site when the fire broke out.

A quartz lamp is suspected of starting the fire. The owner had been installing insulation earlier in the day and the hot bulb may have heated the insulation or some nearby boards, causing them to smolder.
