WASHINGTON, D.C. – Max Levine, 17, of Poland was elected as vice president of the 2004 American Legion Boys Nation program, defeating Harrison Chambers from Alabama and of the Federalist Part at Marymount University, Arlington, Va. Boys Nation was held July 23 to 31 and the presidential election was held on July 27.

The program provided a week of government training in the nation’s capital, comprised of lectures and forums with visits to federal agencies, institutions, memorials and historical sites.

Experience in the political process was gained through the organization of party conventions, the introduction and debate on bills and resolutions and the election of an American Legion Boys Nation president and vice president.

Each delegate represented his home state as a senator. The senators caucused at the beginning of the session and organized into committees. They conducted hearings on bills, allowing delegates the opportunity to learn the proper rules and procedures according to the U.S. Senate.
