POLAND – Beatrice I. Legendre, 81, of 112 South Ave., Lewiston, died Monday evening, Aug. 2, at her summer home on Thompson Lake, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease, with her family by her side.

Born at St. Antonin, P.Q., Canada, Feb. 7, 1923, the daughter of Adelard and Isabelle Fortin Paradis, she was brought up in Farmington and graduated from Farmington High School then from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1944.

She was married to Raymond A. Legendre on March 14, 1945. He was her primary caregiver and lovingly cared for her the past 15 years. Mrs. Legendre had been employed as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and also performed private duty nursing prior to her retirement.

She was a member of Holy Cross Parish and in her younger years enjoyed playing golf, skiing and tennis. She was an accomplished seamstress and excellent cook.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond, of Lewiston; three daughters, Anita Ferland and her husband, Lionel Jr., of Poland, Suzanne Johnson and her husband, Kenneth, of Buckfield and Elaine Burr and her husband, Greg, of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Robert Ferland, Tim and Emily Johnson, Meghan Cook and Michael Burr; a sister, Irene Krason and her husband, Henry, of Massachusetts; and a brother, William Paradis and his wife, Aletha, of Farmington.
