NORWAY – The Board of Selectmen will try to resolve a property dispute today with a walk of the before their regular meeting.
Selectmen will meet at the Hobbs Pond property of Steven Siskowitz at 6 p.m.
At a July 15 meeting, Siskowitz and his attorney, Elliot Epstein of Lewiston, appealed to the board for help. The pair told selectmen that a neighbor of Siskowitz’s had wrongfully filled a drainage ditch with a stone wall and altered the property, causing water to flow onto Siskowitz’s land.
The changes, they said, were in violation of the original subdivision plan.
Norway’s code enforcement officer, Jeff Van Decker, said he had visited the properties of Siskowitz and his neighbor and believed their dispute was a private matter. He said he found no problems with the neighbor’s property, but there were problems on Siskowitz’s land.
Epstein said he was asking selectmen for help because of difficulties in dealing with Van Decker.
“We don’t think of this as a private matter since it affects the integrity of your subdivision laws,” he said.
Selectmen will tour the property with Siskowitz on Thursday, then return to Norway Town Hall for their 7 p.m. meeting.
