WOODSTOCK – Town Manager Vern Maxfield on Tuesday reviewed the schedule for setting the 2004 tax rate.

Selectmen agreed to reschedule their regular meeting of Aug. 17 to Aug. 19 in order to meet with John O’Donnell regarding the results of this year’s revaluation.

The meeting with O’Donnell, who is president of the assessment firm of O’Donnell Associates of Auburn, will be to go over new property values and set up hearings for people who wish to question changes in their valuations, Maxfield said.

He said the meeting will be the first step in completing the revaluation, and will lead to setting the town’s tax rate for 2004.

“After we review the new valuations and set a schedule for hearings on the 19th,” he said, “letters will be sent out on Aug. 23 notifying people of changes in their valuation and to give them estimates as to the amount of their 2004 tax bills. After that, hearings will be set up for anyone who has questions for the week starting Aug. 30.”

As to when the tax rate will be set and bills sent, he said that part of the process will take place in early September.

“Usually the tax bills would be going out now, but we had to wait for the revaluation program to be completed before the mill rate could be set,” Maxfield said.

The traditional 2 percent discount period will still run for 30 days.
