LEWISTON – The role of Tiny Tim is up for grabs in the Public Theatre’s upcoming production of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” The Public Theatre is currently accepting pictures and résumés from young male or female actors who’d like to be considered for this role when auditions are held in August.

This actor should be a good student and a “quick study,” under 5 feet tall, possessing a sense of childlike exuberance and wonder, and capable of handling Dickens’ language. The contract dates and total time commitment will be from Nov. 29 to Dec. 12. This is a salaried position.

This is a great opportunity for a talented young person to work with professional actors in a professional situation, according to the theater.

Since The Public Theatre is an Actors’ Equity theater, this young actor will be eligible to receive Equity membership candidate points towards an Equity card if they choose.

“A Christmas Carol” will rehearses for one week during the day, beginning Monday, Nov. 29, but the spokesman said they can offer some flexibility around school hours during this week. Rehearsals also will be all day Sunday, Dec 5. This child will miss school on Dec 7, 8 and 9 due to student matinee performances at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Public performance dates and times are Dec. 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. and Dec 12 at 1 and 4 p.m.

Young actors interested in the role can send their contact information, plus a picture and résumé describing their theatrical experience to: The Public Theatre, 2 Great Falls Plaza, Box 7, Auburn, ME 04210, or call 782-2211 for additional information. Auditions will be held at the theater in August, by appointment only. Readings will be from the script.
