POLAND – Dorothy Pulsifer Goss was presented the Boston Post Cane and a plaque for being the oldest resident in Poland by the town’s selectmen recently.

Goss was born in Poland in 1908 and was raised on what is now the Pulsifer Road. Her ancestors came to Poland when it was a part of Bakerstown. Some of her ancestors helped to form the Poland Community Church at Poland Corner.

Her grandparents were involved in starting Excelsior Grange in Poland. Goss was recently awarded a certificate by Steven Verrill, Maine State Grange master, for being a member of the Excelsior Grange for 80 years.

After graduating from Farmington Normal School and teaching locally, Goss married Harold Goss in 1930. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary in June.

Goss cared for her family of eight children at home, while her husband ran Goss Hardware, which they owned for many years. He also served three terms in the Maine State Legislature.

She is pleased to say that each of her eight children went to college.
