GARDINER – Award-winning solo pianist Terry Burrus will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center, 280 Water St.

Burrus, who has played and recorded with Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson and Lena Horne (guitar, piano and vocal performance) will perform a romantic array of many popular songs.

Burrus’ style and improvisations range from the Dixie Chicks to Billie Holiday, from Ray Charles to Alice In Chains, from Spanish and American Folk to Nirvana. The concert will feature music from Burrus’ new CD, “ParisNights,” recorded in Paris, France.

Tickets are $14 and may be purchased at the door or reserved by calling Johnson Hall at 582-7144.

A native New Yorker who as a child attended the prestigious High School of Music and Art, Burrus was already a touring keyboardist playing for jazz dummer Lenny White and singers Melba Moore and Jean Carn as a teenager.

With a love of Beethoven and Bach, Burrus, a classical musican influenced by jazz greats, later went on to perform and record with such pop and jazz performers as Gato Barbieri, George Benson, Larry Carlton, Mariah Carey, Phyllis Hyman, and Chaka Kahn. He attended Long Island University and the Julliard School of Music in New York City and has recorded several albums.
