Board of Appeals alternate Helen Walker has been elevated to full-member status until town meeting 2005 and Jon Snell has been appointed as a full member through 2008, filling vacancies created by the resignations of Donna Church and Elizabeth Sitaz.
Selectmen are now seeking volunteers interested in serving as alternate members. The panel does not meet on a regular basis as other town boards, only as needed when an applicant wishes to appeal a decision made by another board.
Durham:
Replacement for blinking light
Selectmen plan to ask the Maine Department of Transportation to have a representative attend their next board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 10. Board members are concerned about MDOT’s decision not to replace the blinking traffic light at the newly reconstructed intersection of Quaker Meetinghouse Road and Route 125, the site of three fatal accidents over the years. Although sight distance has been improved, selectmen said they feel the light is still needed. The light was added several years ago at the town’s request.
