WESTBROOK – Robert L. Cushman, 66, of Carol Street, died Saturday, Aug. 7, at a Portland hospital with his family by his side.

He was born in South Paris, the son of Lawrence and Ruth MorseCushman. He was raised and educated in South Paris before moving to Westbrook.

Robert graduated from the University of Maine at Orono, and attended Gorham State College, was a Principal at Woodstock Elementary in N.H. for a short time, and taught at Falmouth Middle Schools for 25 years, where he was Head of the English Department. After his retirement he worked as a Courtesy Driver for Lee Auto Mall.

Robert served on the Board of Directors for the C.C.T.F.C.U. He was also a member of the Maine Track Club, and the Downeaster Barber Shop Chorus, where he was past Treasurer.

He enjoyed biking with his wife Brenda and completed the Trek Across New England with Cycle America. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons. He also was an avid jogger and ran many road races with his daughter Ronda, and enjoyed spending time in Rangeley with Carolyn and Allan Adams and climbing Saddleback Mountain.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Buck-Cashman, of Westbrook; two sons, Greg and his wife Jenn, of Gorham, Mark and his wife Julie, of Poland; a daughter Ronda Cushman, of Taunton, Mass.; four grandsons, Travis, Brandon, Kyle, and Cole; a brother and sister-in-law Allan and Carolyn Adams, of Cape Elizabeth; a niece Vanessa; and nephew Jeff Adams.

His family wishes to thank Dr. Ebrahim and all staff at the Gibson Pavilion for their compassionate care.
