AUBURN – With a month to go, 18 people are considering runs for city seats.
City Clerk Mary Lou Magno said it’s too early to tell what this November’s ballot will look like. Several people have taken out petitions for multiple seats. They’ll be allowed to serve in only one, she said.
“But we won’t know until they turn in their petitions once and for all,” Magno said.
Petitions are due to Magno’s office by Sept. 13.
So far, four people have taken out petitions to serve on the city’s Charter Commission; Edward H. Desgrosseilliers, of 121 Hatch Road; Daniel R. Herrick, of 470 Hatch Road; Harry W. Woodard, of 56 Grandview Ave.; and Stacy Gutshall, of 156 Main St.
Two incumbent School Committee members have taken out petitions as well. They are David H. Das of 104 4th St. and Chairman Jane Williams of 25 Hazel St.
Two incumbent city councilors, Ward 3’s Joe DeFilipp of 8 Hampton Drive and at-large Councilor Bob Mennealy of 43 Royal Oaks Drive, have taken out positions.
Eight newcomers are also considering runs for council seats. In Ward 2, they are Mara R. Hunter of 50 Davis Ave. and Jodd Bowles of 239 Lake St.
In Ward 3, they are Eric G. Samson of 28 Windemere Way and Charles E. MacDonald of 400 Fletcher Road.
In Ward 4, Donna L. Rowell of 95 Monroe St. has taken out petitions, and David R. Vaillancourt of 17 Gill St. has petitions for the Ward 5 spot.
David C. Pierson of 44 Goodrich Ave. and Ronald W. Potvin of 11 Oak St. both have petitions for the at-large council positions.
Two have petitions out for the at-large position and one other council seat. Gary Baillargeon of 144 Broadview is considering runs for either Ward 1 or an at-large seat. Dan Herrick is considering a running for the Charter Commission, the Ward 3 council seat or the at-large council seat.
Candidates have until Sept. 13 to collect signatures from registered Auburn voters. People seeking the five council or five School Committee ward seats need to collect 25 signatures from registered voters living in their wards. Those seeking the two council or two School Committee at-large seats or the six city Charter Commission seats need to collect 25 signatures from registered voters from anywhere in the city.
Candidates for the mayor’s chair need to collect 100 signatures. So far, no one has taken out petitions for that job.
Magno said the candidates can begin turning in their petitions on Sept. 3. The municipal election is scheduled for Nov. 2.
