In response to the letter from Sue Ellis that ran Aug. 4, I noticed that most of the people attending the meeting to support Sue were people living on the lakes or working in the town office.

Ms. Ellis is wondering why two selectmen voted not to reappoint her. Perhaps the fact that they received many phone calls from people not present at the meeting is one. Also, Ellis was against the public boat landing on Thompson Lake that the state of Maine wanted to put in to benefit people not fortunate enough to live on a lake. She worked hard to get that tabled.

Then, at town meeting this past year, after pushing hard to get the taxpayers to appropriate $2,500 to the Thompson Lake Association, she then stood up and thanked the selectmen for not appropriating more money for street lights.

Evidently it’s OK for taxpayers to pay for the lake, but it isn’t OK for children and adults living in a rural town to be safe when traveling to work or school at night.

Ellis is looking for aesthetics; most people care first about safety.

Hats off to the selectmen for taking a stand on this issue and getting away from the “good old boy” system that seems to be prevalent in Poland.
