LIVERMORE – Seventy-four people had set appointments to discuss new assessed property values with assessor by Friday.
The town underwent a revaluation, and taxpayers received new values and an estimated tax bill. The notices were sent out Wednesday.
“The phones have been busier than the office,” Livermore Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub said. “It’s been going very well. Some people have been surprised about their new values, particularly folks on the ponds.”
People have been very understanding, he said, recognizing town office staff members have a job to do.
Of the 74 people who set appointments with assessors to review new values, some own multiple properties. In all, they represent about 100 to 110 parcels out of about 1,700, Schaub said.
Assessors estimated the tax rate at $15.20 per $1,000 valuation, Schaub said. The current rate is $19.50 per $1,000 valuation. The tax rate has not been set -it’s just an estimated rate now, he said.
Waterfront land valuation has the largest increase in value, he said.
It’s not uncommon to see a property that was assessed at $35,000 go up to $100,000, he said.
Schaub said he didn’t have a breakdown on the number of properties that rose and declined in valuation.
