FARMINGTON – Laudina Marie Melcher, 98, of North Jay, died Sunday evening, Aug. 8, at the Sandy River Center for Health Care, where she had been a resident for the past 14 months.

She was born, Oct. 29, 1905, in Lac Magog, Quebec, Canada, the 13th of 16 children to, Joseph and Georgianna (Bergeron) Coulombe.

At three months of age, she and her family moved to New Hampshire where she attended school.

In 1923, in New Hampshire, she married David Migneault, who predeceased her. She later remarried to, Edward Murray Russell Melcher, Sr., in 1929, in Claremont, N.H. They made their home in New Hampshire, until 1947 when they moved to North Jay. He died, March 10, 1970.

Mrs. Melcher was a loving homemaker to her husband and children her entire life. She was a long-time member of several local organizations including the Wilton Senior Citizens, 50 years in the North Jay Grange, and the Pythian Sisters. She was also an active member of the Bartlett Memorial Methodist Church in North Jay for many years.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and baking various goodies including raspberry squares that she loved bringing to family and friends.

She is survived by three sons, Edward E. Melcher, Jr. and his wife, Angie, of Jay, Robert R. Melcher and his wife, Rhoda, of Norridgewock, and Larry Melcher and his wife, Elaine, of Jay; two daughters, Terry Bergeron, of Claremont, N.H. and Marceline O’Brion and her husband, Phil, of Jay; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Violet Viotto, and her husband, Gino; four brothers and 11 sisters.
