PHILLIPS – “You might be a redneck” is the theme for Phillips Old Home Days starting Aug. 14. The theme is expected to be incorporated into parade floats and displays during the nine-day festival.
New events this year include a free-throw basketball contest at the Old Gym, an amateur art and photography contest at the public library, and a display of Ron Stinchfield’s sculptures in the parking lot of Ron’s Texaco. The fashion revue will also be revived after a 10-year hiatus at 7 p.m. Aug. 19. The 46th annual Old Home Days parade will take place at 5 p.m. Aug. 20.
Artists wishing to display art or photographs can drop them off at Phillips Hardware from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 14. Children 13 years old and younger may submit a framed pencil drawing; those 14 and up may submit a framed photograph. Categories for the contest are animals, people and scenery. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded.
