LEEDS – Raymond O. Smith, 80, of Leeds, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 2, at his home in Leeds, of congestive heart failure.
Born in Litchfield, Jan. 16, 1924, the son of G. Clinton and Dorothy (Frost) Smith, he was raised and educated in Monmouth.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Bronstein and the U.S.S. Warrington during World War II.
Raymond was well known for the dairy farm he operated in Greene, Smith Farms, for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Vivien Colfer Smith; daughter, Shirley Sloan and her husband, Larry, of Okpo, South Korea; a son, James and grandson, James Jr., both of Livermore Falls; a granddaughter, Rebecca and two grandsons, Hayden and Sawyer Alley, all of Boothbay; two brothers, Ralph, of Kittery and Kenneth, of Greene; and four sisters, Alberta Tapley, of Kittery, Connie Buckley, of Leeds, Frances McCabe, of Auburn and Amber McCabe, of Monmouth.
He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers.
