JAY – A vehicle skidded out of control on a corner on Route 4 in North Jay early Saturday, crossing a parking lot and lawn before striking a house. The operator fled the scene on foot before police arrived.

The car, a 1996 Mercury Mystique, did extensive damage to the house, Jay Police Chief Larry White said.

The vehicle left skid marks across Ranor Inc.’s lot and on the grass of Harold Beisaw’s lawn before it struck his house, White said.

Jay police Sgt. Charles Keene and Officer Troy Young responded to the scene and called in a Maine State Police canine unit.

Beisaw was asleep at the time of the accident and uninjured, White said.

The next day, Sunday, the registered owner of the car, Alicia Weber of Livermore Falls, reported that her vehicle was stolen, White said.

Keene is investigating multiple leads in the case, White said.
