NAPLES – Southern Maine Women’s Golf Association will hold its 28th annual amateur championship tournament August 16-17 at Naples Golf & Country Club.

The SMGA, established in 1976, has a membership of just under 500 players.

Five-time champion and 2003 defending champ Laurie Hyndman of The Woodlands will lead the pack of 58 other contenders, Mary Brandes of The Woodlands, 2-time champ, and Cindy Choate of Bridgton, 6-time winner, will also be vying for the title, along with past champions Bernice Vadnais of Biddeford-Saco, and Laura Gagnon of Dutch Elm.

Tee times will begin at 8 a.m. both days, with the times being reversed on the second day.

Travel league results

Long drive event slated

ORRINGTON – The second annual Pepsi Maine Long Drive Championship will be held Saturday, August 14 at Rocky Knoll Country Club on Route 15 in Orrington.

Competition in seven divisions will be held from noon to 4 p.m.
