BERWICK (AP) – A girl two days shy of her second birthday drowned Tuesday in a residential swimming pool, police said.
Berwick police received a call at 12:28 p.m. about a missing child, but the call quickly turned into one about a child found floating face down in a pool, said Officer Eric Small.
The girl lived in Oklahoma with her mother and was in the area visiting her father, Drew Connors, 19, of Rochester, N.H., Small said.
Small said the girl, whose name has not been released, was pulled from the pool but that rescue attempts failed. The girl was pronounced dead at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H.
Small called the drowning a “horrible accident.”
