DIXFIELD – This weekend’s bash at Hosmer Field on Weld Street is expected to literally be a big hit with children and adults.
Dixfield’s second annual Softball-Baseball Bash starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14. The rain date is Sunday, Aug. 15, at the same time.
Organizer Bitsey Ionta said Tuesday that the event is open to boys, girls and adults from anywhere in Maine.
There are to be six events running simultaneously:
• A home run derby.
• Speed base running.
• Speed throwing with a radar gun.
• Throwing for distance and accuracy.
• Throwing at a target.
• A “High-Pop Knockout” for T-ballers, farm league and Little League players.
High-Pop Knockout, Ionta said, involves a machine that throws tennis balls 12 stories high.
Concessions and a 50-50 raffle will also be offered. Ionta urged participants to bring their own gloves and favorite bats. Certificates are to be awarded for the first three places in each event. Contestants are to be split into groups:
• T-ball.
• Girls and boys.
• Farm league girls and boys.
• Little League girls and boys.
• Babe Ruth League girls and boys.
• American Legion-age girls and boys.
• Adult women and men.
