BETHEL – The Bethel Planning Board on Wednesday signed off on at least two subdivision plans, one of which calls for the expansion of an existing development.
An amendment to the Taylor Woods subdivision plan, submitted by Bob Martin of Ski Tracks Inc., was approved with a 5-1 vote.
Voting against the plan was member Wally Hannigan, who disagreed with the conditions of approval.
Alternate board member Suzi Harrington, who was not voting Wednesday, was unsatisfied with a fire pond to be built on the site. She asked that a condition be added to the plan requiring that the fire pond hold a specified level of water.
“We’re unfortunately in a situation in this town where the town does not have a fire protection ordinance,” board Chairman Al Cressy said.
Larry Engdahl, who was voted vice chairman Wednesday, said a letter from the fire chief approving the pond if “correctly installed” was enough to ensure it would be required to be built correctly.
“That’s basically it – it’s part of our record,” Engdahl said, adding that no further plan conditions were needed. “We don’t call the shots on fire ponds.”
Cressy, Engdahl and members David Nivus and Rocky Freda voted in favor of the plan. Alternate Nancy White also voted in favor of the plan, sitting in for absent board member Jan Baker.
Plans for a new subdivision on East Bethel Road, to be called Countryside Acres, were granted a final approval Wednesday with a 6-0 vote. The plans were approved at a July 28 board meeting, but Cressy asked for another vote of approval for a final copy of the plans.
The board also on Wednesday considered plans for a Swan Hill Road subdivision to be called Farwell Mountain Estates; a Taylor Smith Road subdivision to be called Mountain Valley Subdivision; and a proposed expansion of the Will View subdivision on Will View Road.
