LEWISTON – Mary J. Vanier Brogan, 84, of 8 Belleview Ave., Lewiston, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in South Portland, June 11, 1920, the daughter of John H. and Margaret Barrett Vanier. She graduated from South Portland High School in the Class of 1937, Gorham Normal School in 1940, and received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of Maine in 1968. She taught elementary school in Brewer, South Portland, Portland and Auburn.

Mrs. Brogan was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish and CMMC Women Hospital Association Gift Shop. She also volunteered at St. Joseph’s Church teaching children’s literature.

She enjoyed reading, crafts, sports, especially the Red Sox and Patriots, her flower garden, knitting, and loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila A. Danforth and husband, Paul, of Lisbon; a son, Brian S. Brogan and wife, Jan, of O’Fallon, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Tanguay, of Brunswick, Jon Tanguay, of Bath, Scott Brogan, of O’Fallon, Ill.; a sister, Ann Melaugh and husband, Bill, of South Portland; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Jack Vanier.
