I would like to address the happenings of the Lewiston City Council’s Tuesday meeting.

I watched as a group of elected leaders begged, pleaded and used other means to scare people from supporting the Palesky tax cap proposal.

Maine citizens have had enough of their local and state officials spending beyond their means for so long. Still Mr. Bennett and the mayor want to have no restraints on spending. They want one more opportunity to do what has been a concern for a long time.

The entire state needs to look long and very hard at all the reasons why this tax cap idea is going to pass.

Mr. Bennett and the council’s only response is: “It is going to devastate the services we can offer.”

They further went on to say that firefighters would watch people’s properties burn. Another pure propaganda move, like people will not get their streets plowed during a snowstorm.

Instead of looking at the downside of this, maybe this is a blessing where L-A could merge departments and strengths and reduce spending. It is easier to resist changes that challenge us, yet if we continue the path we are on, no economic recovery in Lewiston or anywhere in this state can last.

We must reduce the amount of tax dollars going out of the people’s pockets.
