LEWISTON – Lewiston Rec leagues will conduct two deciding playoff games tonight.
In the L-A Men’s Softball League, Legends (1) and Poland Spring (4) will play at Randall Road-2 at 6:00. Legends won the first game of the best-of-3 series, but Poland Spring rallied for 4 runs in the last of the 7th Wednesday night to win game 2.
Gipper’s (3) defeated Ducharme Masonry (2) in 2 straight games to move into next week’s Lewiston Division finals. Gipper’s swept the series Wednesday with an 11-6 victory as Kyle Winter went 3-3, including a 2-run homer. Bob Haskell added a pair of hits, 1 a 2-run round-tripper. Mike Pomerleau, Chip Doughty, Bob Akers and Mike Gooldrup added 2 hits each. Doughty was the winning hurler. Gipper’s will enter the best-of-3 finals next week. Game 1 is slated for Tuesday, August 17 at R-3; game 2 for August 18 at R-1; and the “if” game for August 19 at R-1. All games start at 6:00.
The Lewiston winner will take on the Auburn champ in a best-of-3 series for the overall title, August 24 at Pettengill, August 25 at R-1; and August 26 at Pettengill.
In the Lewiston Rec Men’s League, Brunswick Steel (4) and Fast Breaks (5) will decide their best-of-3 series tonight at Randall Road-1 at 6:00. Brunswick Steel won the first game, but Fast Breaks evened the series Wednesday.
Auburn Players
AUBURN – A random drawing for seeds for the upcoming post-season tournament was held recently. Following is the opening playoff schedule: Thursday, August 19, Meineke Muffler vs Main-Land, Tribou, 6:00; Tail Gators vs Lincoln Street Radiator, Lakeview-1, 6:00; Able Power vs Major Automotive, Pettengill, 7:30. Friday, August 20: Superior Concrete vs CarQuest Auto, Tribou, 6:00; DRS Construction vs Bulldogs, Pett., 6:00. Monday, August 23: Ball Busters vs Winner-1, Tribou, 6:00; Winner 2 vs Winner 3, Lakeview-1, 6:00; Loser 2 vs Loser 3, Pett., 6:00; K&K Excavation vs Winner 5, Pett., 6:00; Melanson vs Winner 4, Pett., 7:30.
The tourney continues August 24, 25, 26, 30, 31, with the championship game slated for Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 6:00 at Pettengill.
