WILTON – Selectmen Tuesday will discuss plans for naming an interim police chief to replace longtime Chief James Parker, who recently retired.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the town office. They will also discuss information from the Maine Chiefs of Police Association on consulting services for hiring a new police chief.

Parker, a lifelong resident of the town, has been on the Wilton Police force for 32 years. He has served as chief for the past 26 years. Parker will serve his last day as chief Sept. 7. Officials plan to sign a letter of appreciation to Parker for his years of service to the town.

Selectmen will also consider a resignation from Planning Board member Ted Keiler. Keiler and his family are relocating to another area.

Former Planning Board Chairman Russell Black, elected this year to a selectman post, also resigned from the Planning Board last month, along with longtime Planning Board member Bernal Allen. Allen resigned for health reasons. Mike Leary was appointed as a new full-time member and Joe Marston and former Selectmen George Mosher were appointed to alternate positions.

Former alternate Planning Board member Sheryl Mosher was moved up to full-time status and Mike Sherrod, whose term expired in June, was reappointed. Selectman and Planning Board Member Keith Swett was also reappointed, after getting an opinion from the Maine Municipal Association about the legality of serving on both boards.

In other business, officials will discuss and take appropriate action to repair the bridge over Bates Brook on the Pond Road and hear a quarterly report from Recreation Director Frank Donald. They will also conduct Town Manager Peter Nielsen’s yearly performance evaluation, tabled from their last meeting.
